A man has built a 7ft tall Dalek out of snow in his back garden.
Paul Cullen, 48, spent four hours constructing the infamous Doctor Who villain in his garden.
The trainee maths teacher thought “it was just something do do and good exercise!”
His competitive spirit got the better of him on Monday when a neighbour marvelled at a snowman in the garden next door.
Ex-skydiver Paul spent two hours building a 7ft tall cowboy to compete with his neighbour’s in Mow Cop, Staffordshire.
And the following day (Tuesday, December 29) he scaled-up by transforming him into a Dalek.
He said: “I was concerned about the lack of finesse in the cowboy so converted him.
“I’m not a massive Doctor Who fan but I wanted to build something that was stable- I looked at pictures of R2D2 but he was too top heavy.”
This took a further two hours and twice the amount of snow for his original creation.
A seasoned snow-builder, Paul built an igloo back when he was at university using wallpaper paste buckets, so administered a similar technique by making snow bricks and then rounding them off.
He said: “I’ve just stopped short of getting the chainsaw out.”
Paul’s garden saw about 6 inches of snow over Sunday night (December 27), but at the top of Mow Cop hill there are people skiing as it has become over a foot deep.
His next challenge is a replica of Mow Cop castle that he’s building with the help of his neighbour.
