Prime Minister Boris Johnson is addressing the nation live from Downing Street to give an update on all coronavirus changes.
The briefing, alongside chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty, will see Mr Johnson explain what the Christmas relaxation rules will be for the UK next week.
Speaking in Parliament today Mr Johnson said the plans for the rules will not change – meaning up to three households can meet indoors and stay overnight for five days from December 23.
But leaders of the devolved nations have issued different guidance – with Wales saying no more than two households should meet, and Scotland saying you should meet for no more than one day.
Mr Johnson said tough new guidance will be issued. He said you should ‘avoid the elderly’ if possible.
Mr Johnson is also likely to address the tier system in England as the new levels were agreed by the Government today.
Some areas in the country could see their tier level increased – or decreased. London and parts of the south east have already been escalated into tier three meaning pubs are closed.
Wales is to go into a full national lockdown for three weeks from Christmas Day.
Mr Johnson will also give an update on vaccination, which began just over a week ago, and Professor Whitty will explain the latest figures – with numbers of infections, hospitalisations, admissions to intensive care and deaths.
Updates will appear here.
