When California’s electors meet at 2 p.m. Pacific time Monday, their votes are expected to push Joe Biden past the 270 needed to win the presidency.

The state’s 55 votes are pledged to Biden, and the electors are required by law to adhere to the popular vote.

The electors will gather in the Assembly chambers in Sacramento. The event is scheduled to be live-streamed starting around 2 p.m. on the Assembly’s website.

The electors are chosen by each party and are often behind-the-scenes party stalwarts. Probably the most recognizable name on this year’s California list is Pete McCloskey, 93, who represented a San Mateo County district in Congress from 1967 to 1983.
