First Minister Mark Drakeford is to give the Welsh Government coronavirus briefing today (December 4).

It comes as new restrictions come into force this evening requiring all cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to close their doors at 6pm. In addition to the curfew, alcohol sales will be prohibited at any time of the day.
Cinemas, bowling alleys and other indoor entertainment venues will also be closed at all times.
The restrictions will be reviewed on Thursday, December 17 and then every three weeks after that, but they come as a devastating blow to the hospitality sector which relies heavily on the Christmas period for revenue.

Despite the increasing restrictions, the UK this week approved a coronavirus vaccine for use which could mark the first step toward ending the pandemic.
Dr Gill Richardson, the chair of the Covid-19 vaccine programme board, said: “We will be vaccinating people who are most at-risk of catching coronavirus and developing serious illnesses first, based on the recommendations from the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisations.
“The first groups to be offered the vaccine will be people living and working in care homes, people aged 80 and over and all frontline NHS and social care workers
“We’ll then offer it to other age groups and those at highest clinical risk.”
Wales’ chief medical officer Dr Frank Atherton warned that despite the vaccine “it is still going to be a very difficult winter” and urged people to continue to follow the social distancing, hand-hygiene and other rules to stop the spread of coronavirus.
